Darren Hunt, the KVIA-News 7 reporter who was roughed up and arrested by an El Paso police officer while covering an accident on Interstate-10 in April, has filed a $450,000 claim against the city.

I hope that the family behind Chico’s issues a sincere apology, corrects their policy, retrains their staff, and hires a security company that doesn’t condone homophobic hate-mongering. Until then, my visits home will be Chico’s-less and I’ll take my money and my craving for oddly satisfying soggy tacos elsewhere.

Thursday night protesters gathered in front of the Chico's Tacos on Trawood and Montwood and held signs of equality and chanted "Equal rights for everyone!!" The protests continued Friday and are to take place again today.

In an odd twist, laws banning homosexual conduct continue to exist in Texas, even though the laws have been ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. In El Paso a city ordinance, which the officer apparently didn't know about, bars discrimination based on sexual orientation.
