This Sunday, April 6 from 2p to 4p, The Border Art Residency will be hosting it's End of Residency fundraiser and celebration at the Creative Kids oLo Gallery, 504 San Francisco. I invite you to visit with our current resident, Rie Kawakami, and spend some time taking in her artwork. We'll be unveiling her mammoth steel sculpture entitled, "Undulating Earth," that will be on display in Wichita Falls for a year. Rie has also hung several interactive pieces that are calling for your hands to touch.

Rie will be in El Paso for a few more months and it's remarkable how in such a short time, she's managed to make such a great impressions--as a mentor for UTEP sculpture students and as an artist in residency. Rie is super friendly, hard-working, extremely talented and El Paso is lucky to benefit from her creative prowess.

The Border Art Residency is about $100,000 away from becoming a self-sustaining organization, and while there's no charge to attend, we hope that you will contribute what you can toward continuing our goals of providing professional artists the opportunity to concentrate on their work; to enable artists to break new ground while focusing on individual goals; to strengthen art in the El Paso area; to broaden community understanding of contemporary art; and to provide a unique venue for local art educators to share the experience of art-making with their students.
