The candidates were at the UTEP Student Union and at Leach Grove.

Jason Heavilin, president of the University Democrats, said the event initially was to take place at Leach Grove, but that early voting was at the Student Union, so "the politicians kind of gravitated there because it was closer to the poll."

He said hundreds of students were exposed to the campaigners and to early voting. Heavilin also acknowledged that some students initially didn't know anything about the races or that there were polls open at UTEP, "so at a minimum they were informed they could vote here today."
