Dear Friends:
It is with anticipation and regret that I have decided to leave Planned Parenthood Center of El Paso (PPCEP) to pursue another endeavor. My last day with PPCEP will be May 11, 2007.
It has truly been a privilege to serve as the CEO of this wonderful organization for the last fifteen years. PPCEP offered me my first job when I moved to El Paso from Phoenix in 1981. I started my career with PPCEP as a receptionist. During my years with PPCEP I have had many roles including clinic counselor, coordinator for the vasectomy program, Director of Community Education, Marketing and Public Affairs, a member of the Board of Directors and finally, the CEO. My work has been challenging and productive, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with a wonderful group of dedicated staff members. I have also been honored to have served a diverse and committed board that throughout the years has supported my efforts and the important work of PPCEP.
I leave PPCEP as an employee, but will always remain a loyal supporter of the mission and the organization. PPCEP will always have a significant place in my heart. I take with me many memories that I will cherish forever, like the March for Women’s Lives, truly one of the most outstanding experiences of my life. Words cannot describe the feeling of marching through Washington D.C. with one million like minded souls, all there to stand up for a woman’s right to make a personal choice about childbearing. It was a powerful, extremely emotional day and helped me re-focus on why Planned Parenthood is such an important organization, locally and nationally.
As I leave, the Board of Directors has decided to establish the “Betty Hoover Legacy Fund for Contraceptive Supplies”. The implementation of the Deficit Reduction Act and other Congressional endeavors has caused the cost of contraceptive supplies to skyrocket. The purpose of the fund is to help PPCEP purchase adequate amounts of Emergency Contraception and other birth control methods to ensure sufficient inventory to meet ever-growing client needs. I sincerely hope you will contribute to this effort. Your contribution will help me know that my efforts made a positive impact in our community while I was here. It will also help offset our costs associated with purchasing contraceptive supplies.
I thank you for the overwhelming support you have given PPCEP during my tenure and ask that once more, you make a generous contribution to the Betty Hoover Legacy Fund for Contraceptive Supplies. I could not receive a greater honor that leaving a healthy Legacy for the many clients who depend on PPCEP for their reproductive health care needs. Donations to the fund may be sent to “Legacy Fund”, 1801 Wyoming, Suite 202, El Paso, Texas 79902 or call 54408189 for more information.
It has been an incredible and fantastic journey – thank you for the opportunity!
With Gratitude,
Betty
