The San Diego Medical Examiner's office issued a brief statement Wednesday saying that a final determination of the cause of death for Marcus Jonathan Hunt is pending.

Wednesday’s recorded announcement stated, “The autopsy has been completed. The cause of death is listed as pending. Basically, what pending means is that the final certification of the cause and/or manner of death is pending confirmatory or other testing, such as microscopic or toxicological examination or further investigation into the circumstances of death.

"It does not mean that the autopsy was inconclusive or that that the cause of death is undetermined. In order for all those test results to come in, it could be anywhere from two to three months.”

Hunt, chairman of REDCO and a member of the Hunt family, which owns various businesses consolidated under the name of Hunt Companies, was found dead Tuesday at the family vacation home in La Jolla.

"This morning when his wife was not able to contact him she requested a friend ... conduct a welfare check," stated a recording at the medical examiner's press office on Tuesday. Hunt was found dead on the scene, stated the recording.
