A San Diego Police lieutenant whose division handles homicides and other deaths said this morning that officials are awaiting toxicology results in Monday’s death of Marcus Hunt, but they are conducting no further investigation in the case.
“There was an initial investigation done by patrol officers, and they consulted with an investigator from the medical examiner’s office,” said homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney. “We’re just awaiting the final results of the autopsy, but there’s no additional investigation that’s going on right now.”

As the successor to Paul Foster as REDCo board chairman, Hunt was highly regarded in El Paso’s business community as a promising young leader dedicated to improving the community.
Rooney said he could not discuss whether anything was found in the house that might point to the cause of Hunt’s death.
“It doesn’t appear to be an unexplained death is the best way I can put it,” Rooney said. “We investigate not only murders, but also what we call suspicious deaths.
“At this point, Mr. Hunt’s death does not appear to be suspicious.”
The toxicological examination will be completed in six weeks to three months, he said.
