On California, an entrepreneur expanded his business. At Civic Center Park, a Critical Mass. And at Speer and Market, police, protesters, and soldiers avoided confrontation.

Monday, Shrimpboat Rick had a table on California. By Wednesday, he had multiple tables, helpers, and tents.

Civic Center Park was almost entirely fenced in; observers said they were told it's in preparation for a festival that starts Friday.

A couple hundred bike riders initiate Critical Mass, the takeover of streets by masses of bike riders.

Food Not Bombs was feeding people in the park. A strip of the western portion of Civic Center park was open.

The Ginger Ninjas play around the country, traveling by bike and mass transit. They also use the bikes to generate power for the speakers.

The veterans saluted, and fell at ease. Some cried, others hugged each other and anyone nearby.
