Rodriguez Takes Whistlestop Tour to Get Economy Back on Track this SATURDAY
Precedes Celebration of National Train Day
Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez (TX-23) today announced that this SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2008, he would take a whistlestop tour across his Congressional district on the Sunset Limited train to speak to constituent and community leaders about getting our economy back on track. The trip will take place a week before Amtrak’s National Train Day.
“I’m taking this train trip to listen to my constituents about how the economy is affecting them and their communities,” said Rodriguez. “I’m pleased to have helped many Texans with some financial relief by passing the bipartisan economic stimulus package. But as our economy stumbles and people have a hard time paying their mortgage or dealing with rising gas and food costs, we must work toward a more sustained economic recovery.”
As millions of Americans receive their economic stimulus checks, Rodriguez will address the economic concerns of constituents at stops in Alpine, Sanderson, and Del Rio and receive input about how the struggling economy is affecting their families.
Media are invited to ride the train* along the entire tour, for chosen legs of the tour, or to visit the train at a chosen stop. Rodriguez will start the day at 8:30 am MT in El Paso and the train will continue on to San Antonio with stops in Alpine, Sanderson and Del Rio. A full schedule follows below.
